Nursing Home Sale Prices at Lowest Level Since 1994
Changes in Medicare reimbursement, bankruptcies, and diminishing capital for acquisitions drove sales prices for nursing homes to the lowest prices in seven years. According to The Senior Care Acquisition Report, Sixth Edition published by Irving Levin Associates, the average sale price for skilled nursing facilities in 1999 was $40,700 per bed, while the average price in 2000 was $36,600, a 10 percent drop. Several factors contributed to the sharp fall in prices during the past year, including assisted living competition, declining occupancy rates . . .
