May 10, 2004 Smith Named President & CEO of Capital BlueCross On April 22, 2004, Capital BlueCross, the leading health insurer in central Pennsylvania, named Anita Smith to be its next president and chief executive officer. Ms. Smith, who now is executive vice president, will assume her new responsibilities July 1, 2004, succeeding James Mead. Mr. Mead announced his pending retirement in December 2004.
