New Jersey to Create 600 Units of Community Housing for Persons With Developmental Disabilities
On May 10, 2011, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie announced that the state planned to develop 600 units of community housing for people with developmental disabilities by June 2013. The objective is to expedite the process of moving individuals out of institutions, off of the community-based care waiting list, and into community residential placements with supportive living services. The state Department of Human Services and the Department of Community Affairs, which oversees affordable housing programs will run the initiative.
