Physician Adoption Of EHRs Increases To 34%; Adoption Rates Rises Among All Age Groups
Between 2008 and 2011, the percentage of office-based physicians using a basic electronic health record system (EHRs) has increased from 17% to 34%. The EHRs penetration rate has doubled in all physician age groups. Among physicians over age 65, the penetration rate tripled, from 8.0% to 23.9%. Among physicians under age 35, the penetration rate doubled, from 24.8% to 52.8%. During that same time period, the percentage of office-based physicians using any form health information technology increased from about 40% to 55%.
