Dual Eligibles Account For 15% Of National Medicaid Population But State & County Rates Vary Widely
In 2008, about 15% of Medicaid beneficiaries across the nation were also eligible for Medicare—representing 9 million individuals –however across the states and among the counties in each state, the percentage of duals varies widely. About 10% of the Medicaid population in Arizona and Utah is also eligible for Medicaid; in Maine duals are 26% of the Medicaid population. In Texas,10% of Moore County’s Medicaid population and 46% in Terrell County are dual eligible.
