June 19, 2006 OIG Expects $1.02 Billion in First Half 2006 Audit Recoveries On June 2, 2006, the Office of Inspector General (OIG) reported expected recoveries for the first half of fiscal year (FY) 2006 of approximately $1.02 billion. The recoveries will come from $288 million in audit receivables and $732.4 million in investigative receivables for fraud or abuse involving federal health care programs and/or their beneficiaries. The OIG filed 226 criminal actions against individuals or entities that engaged in crimes against departmental programs; and 119 civil actions, which include False Claims Act and unjust enrichment . . .
