States Opting Out Of Medicaid Expansion Means 3.6 Million Fewer Insured
If 14 states that stated as of April 25, 2013 that they planned to opt out of expanding Medicaid for calendar year 2014, follow through, there will be 3.6 million fewer insured people in the United States. Most of the uninsured in the opt-out states will earn less than 100% of the federal poverty line, and will be ineligible for health insurance premium subsidies if they seek to purchase health insurance through a state or federally run health insurance exchange.
