Pennsylvania Medicaid Expands Coverage For Telemedicine Services
On May 22, 2012, Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare (DPW) announced broader coverage for Medicaid specialist services provided via telemedicine technology enabling two-way, real-time interactive communication between the patient and the physician. Previously, the state had limited Medicaid telemedicine services to specific specialist consultations; as of May 23, 2012, all participating fee-for-service (FFS) Medical Assistance providers (physicians, certified registered nurse practitioners, and certified nurse midwives) can provide diagnosis and treatment services—even prescribing medications—via telemedicine.
