States Expecting 3.4% Increase In Medicaid Spending For 2013
A survey of states by the National Governors Association and the National Association of State Budget Officers has found that state governors’ proposed 2013 budgets included a 3.4% increase in state Medicaid spending and predicted a 3.6% increase in Medicaid enrollment. To contain costs, 15 states are planning to cut Medicaid provider reimbursements during fiscal year 2013. In fiscal year 2012, 30 states cut Medicaid provider reimbursements. Overall, in addition to cutting provider reimbursement rates, governors’ budget proposals for 2013 revealed several common strategies for reducing Medicaid costs.
