CMS Provides Additional $15 Million Toward SHIPs to Give Consumers Information About Medicare Coverage

OPEN MINDS On-Line News Strategic Health Care News On June 6, 2008, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced that an additional $15 million will be provided to State Health Insurance Assistance Programs (SHIPs). CMS officials said that the funding will help SHIPs provide Medicare enrollees with more information about their coverage options and assist them in applying for additional coverage. A total of $50 million will be distributed to SHIPs in 2008, resulting in an increase of $20 million from 2007 funding.
