Medicare Penalties Loom for E-Prescribing Holdouts; CMS Proposes a Fix

In light of looming penalties for Medicare health care professionals who are not e-prescribing and have not been granted an exemption, the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has proposed revisions to the e-prescribing (eRx) incentive program. After reviewing Medicare Part B claims data, CMS has identified 209,000 eligible professionals who submitted claims for patients visits for at least one of the 55 conditions included in the eRx program during 2010.
