Setting up an electronic health record (EHR) system costs $40,000 per doctor, and two-thirds of physicians who have not implemented EHRs cited cost as the reason. Adoption rates highlighted the cost effect:
4% of physicians have a fully functional EHR system
13% have a basic system
6% of physicians have purchased an EHR but not employed it
26% planned on buying one within the next two years.
