A New Mexico Internet-based telehealth consultation program called Project Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes (ECHO) is being expanded beyond its current focus on chronic and complex medical conditions to become a platform for mental health treatment and management. Project ECHO launched in 2003 as a project to improve access to treatment for hepatitis C for New Mexico residents by linking specialists with primary care provider organizations in underserved areas.
