U.S. Adult Obesity Rate Remains Stable At Nearly 29% Between 2011 & 2012
Between 2011 and 2012, the percentage of Americans over age 20 considered obese remained stable, with only a 0.2% increase from 28.7% in 2011 to 28.9% in 2012. Obesity is defined as a body mass index of 30 or higher, based on height and weight. The prevalence of obesity was higher in adults ages 40-59 (about 33%), than it was in the 20-39 age group (about 25%) or the 60 and over age group (about 28%).
