53% Of MCOs Operating Medicare Advantage D-SNPs Also Operate A Medicaid Managed Care Plan
Nationwide, 53% of the 133 health plans operating a Medicare Advantage Special Needs Plan (SNP) in 2010 for Medicare beneficiaries dually enrolled in Medicaid (a D-SNP) also operated a Medicaid managed care plan in the same state. A comparison of companies serving dual eligibles through Medicare Advantage plans, D-SNPs, or comprehensive Medicaid managed care plans found that companies offering Medicare Advantage plans, but not D-SNPs, were less likely than those offering D-SNPs to participate in Medicaid.
