Aetna Joint Venture With Inova Health System Moving Aetna Forward On Goal For National ACO Network

On June 25, 2012, Aetna announced a joint venture with Inova Health System to develop and launch Innovation Health Plans by January 1, 2013; the relationship with Inova is part of Aetna’s goal of developing a network of accountable care organizations (ACO) and ACO-like entities nationwide. Aetna started its first ACO in 2007 with Medicare Advantage. In June 2011, Aetna launched a new business segment, Aetna Accountable Care Solutions, specifically focused on collaborating with “high quality health systems” to make transformational changes to improve quality, coordination, and patient health care experiences.
