Five Governors Say ‘No’ To Medicaid Expansion
As of July 5, 2012, governors in five states are on the record as saying that they do not plan to expand Medicaid eligibility to uninsured low-income childless adults. On June 28, 2012, the U.S. Supreme Court affirmed that the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010 (PPACA) is constitutional; as part of that ruling, the court deemed that while the federal expansion of the Medicaid program to include low-income childless adults is constitutional, states have the option to not expand coverage.
