On June 25, 2012, the U.S. Social Security Administration (SSA) announced that Kaiser Permanente will begin to electronically transmit complete medical records to SSA for its patients seeking disability benefits using the Nationwide Health Information Network (NwHIN). SSA requests about 70,000 patient files from Kaiser Permanente annually; transmitting the files electronically is anticipated to permit SSA to make accurate decisions on disability applications more quickly.
