Three Pennsylvania Counties Chester, Delaware & Montgomery to Implement Mental Health Courts
OPEN MINDS On-Line News Social Services On July 1, 2008, Pennsylvanias Chester County began implementing a mental health court to provide treatment rather than jail time for offenders with mental illnesses. A Delaware County mental health court is expected to start in late July 2008. On August 7, 2008, a Montgomery County task force will start meeting to design a mental health court for that county. The three counties mental health court proposals received state grants in April 2008 to create programs to treat, rather than incarcerate, qualifying individuals with mental illnesses in the criminal justice system.
