August 1, 2005 California To Move Elderly, Blind, & Disabled From Medi-Cal To HMOs In 2007Governor Schwarzenegger's agreement with the federal government to shift 554,000 elderly, blind and disabled people from Medi-Cal to HMOs was announced Wednesday by his administration. Over five years, the administration can spend $18.4 million in Medicaid money to overhaul hospital financing in the state.The shift, slated to occur between January 2007 and mid-2008, would affect people living in 35 counties, which includes Los Angeles.
