$73 Billion in U.S. Health Care Mergers & Acquisitions in the Second Quarter of 2011; Up 44% Over First Quarter
During the second quarter of 2011, 243 health care industry mergers and acquisitions were announced; the aggregate value was $73 billion and represented a 44% increase over activity in the sector during the first quarter of 2011. Ninety percent of the deal value ($66.2 billion) was concentrated in the 104 deals in the health care technologies sector—medical devices (45% of total deal value), pharmaceuticals (37%), biotechnology (7%), and e-health (1%).
