California Approves Rates For Plans In Health Insurance Marketplace
On July 15, 2013, the California Department of Managed Health Care (DMHC) announced that proposed rates submitted by the Covered California qualified health plans (QHP) were approved, confirming that the health plan sponsors’ rates are justified and appropriately reflected anticipated costs. Covered California is the state’s health insurance marketplace. QHPs are individual and family health insurance plans that provide 10 essential health benefits. Under California law, DMHC approves all proposed rates for small group health plans, and the DMHC approval was the final step before the contracts could be signed.
