August 28, 2006 Independent, Not-for-Profit Nursing Homes Tend to Provide Better Care Than For-Profit Chain Homes In general, not-for-profit homes tend to provide better care to residents than for-profit ones, and independently run homes provided better care than chains. More than seven percent of not-for-profit homes provided good quality care, but less than two percent of for-profit homes were likely to provide good care.
