On July 15, 2011, the U.S. Attorney’s Office of Eastern Kentucky sued Villaspring Health Care Center, a nursing facility in northern Kentucky, and its parent company, Carespring Health Care Management, alleging in a civil complaint that poor quality of care was a contributing factor in the deaths of five Villaspring residents, and that billing Medicare and Medicaid for poor quality care constituted fraud.
