OPEN MINDS On-Line News Strategic Health Care News In 2007, according to prescription utilization data, about 26% of Medicare beneficiaries with Part D prescription coverage reached the donut hole of their policies and were required to pay the full cost of their prescriptions. Medicare Part D policies provide prescription coverage until a beneficiarys total drug spending reaches $2,400; catastrophic coverage starts after the beneficiary has spent a total of $3,850 out of pocket.
