Illinois Non-Profit Loses Property Tax Exemption
OPEN MINDS On-Line News Strategic Health Care News On August 26, 2008, the Illinois Fourth District Appellate Court ruled that non-profit Provena Covenant Medical Center (PCMC) not-for-profit, full service, general acute care hospital in Urbana, Illinois did not qualify as a public charity and thus did not qualify for a state property tax exemption. On September 9, 2008, PCMC officials announced they will seek an Illinois Supreme Court review of the ruling to restore the religious and charitable property tax exemption of the hospital.
