1 In 5 ‘Healthy’ Individuals Actually Have Prediabetes
Approximately 20% of adults who had been cleared as healthy by their health care professional actually have prediabetes and are at increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes. These individuals have impaired glucose homeostasis, a precursor to prediabetes; their blood sugar levels are higher than normal, but below the clinical level for diabetes.
The estimated prevalence of prediabetes was based on data collected from continuous glucose monitors (CGM) of people who completed the Canadian Diabetes Risk Questionnaire (CANRISK).
