1 Million Medicaid Beneficiaries With OUD Treated With MOUD In 2022
Medicaid covered the cost of medications to treat opioid use disorder (MOUD) for nearly one million people in 48 states during 2022. Of those who were treated with MOUD, about 60% were in the Medicaid expansion population. Illinois and New York were excluded from this analysis due to data limitations.
Across the states, the percentage of Medicaid beneficiaries in the expansion population treated with MOUD ranged from 22% in Arkansas to 90% in Oregon. In 18 states, 70% or more of Medicaid beneficiaries treated with MOUD were in the expansion population.
