Feds Decide To Move Governance Standards For Nationwide Health Information Network To States & Industry

On September 11, 2012, the federal Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) said it would not pursue national governance standards for a planned Nationwide Health Information Network (NwHIN); instead, states and theindustry will be permitted to continue using their established models or adopt emerging models. The NwHIN is a collection of standards, protocols, legal agreements, specifications, and services to enable secure health information exchange (HIE) over the Internet.
