South Carolina Blues To Reimburse Telemedicine Consultations For Specialty Services, Including Mental Health
On August 15, 2013, BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina (BlueCross) announced that its BlueCross health plan and BlueChoice HealthPlan of South Carolina will use telemedicine to increase access to some specialty services, including mental health, for members in rural areas. BlueCross and BlueChoice will cover telemedicine consultations for high-risk pregnancies, strokes, and mental health. BlueCross and BlueChoice network providers from anywhere in South Carolina may access the specialists contracted to provide telemedicine consultations. BlueCross and BlueChoice began reimbursing for telemedicine consultations on August 1, 2013.
