October 30, 2006 In 2005, 113 Mental Health Courts Operated in the United States In 2005 there were 113 mental health courts across the United States. The number of mental health courts has increased from four in the late 1990s to 70 by January 2004. At the end of 2005, the growth pattern of mental health court adoption had the following characteristics: Three-fourths of all mental health courts were in the western (37%) and southern states (37%).
