November 3, 2003 Calhoun Named NIAAA Deputy Director On September 11, 2003, Faye Calhoun, M.D., was named deputy director of the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA), a component of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). As deputy director, Dr. Calhoun will promote multidisciplinary collaborative research and educational activities in areas of common interest across NIH institutes and centers and with other federal organizations, including the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the Department of Justice, and the Department of Education.
