U.S. Senate Bill Would Reimburse Mental Health Counselors Under Medicare
OPEN MINDS On-Line News U.S. Senator Paul Wellstone (D-Minnesota) introduced legislation October 25 to allow direct Medicare reimbursement to mental health counselors for their services. The proposed Medicare Mental Health Modernization Act, the first such legislation introduced in the U.S. Senate, would result in broad reform for Medicare mental health benefits. The introduction was applauded by the American Mental Health Counselors Association (AMHCA), which had requested the bill and provided its legislative language to Senator Wellstone.
