Los Angeles County Develops Universal Health Care Coverage Strategy, Cuts Reimbursements for Indigent Emergency Care
On October 18, 2011, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors cut fee-for-service reimbursement rates by four percent for the county’s indigent emergency care program, in part because the county anticipates enrolling most indigent residents in the county’s recently launched universal health care plan that builds on its Healthy Way LA program that began in 2007. Enrollment in the new Healthy Way LA program started in July 2011; the plan is now open to low-income childless adults ineligible for health care coverage through Medi-Cal or Healthy Families.
