19% of U.S. Companies Impose Penalties To Drive Employee Participation in Health Management Programs
In 2011, 19% of U.S.-based employers imposed penalties to encourage employee participation in health management programs. More than half of U.S.-based employers, (54%) also offered financial rewards to individuals participating in health management programs. For 2012, the percentage of companies using financial rewards and penalties is expected to increase by at least 50%. By 2012, 38% of employers intend to impose penalties and 80% intend to offer financial rewards for participation in health management programs.These are findings of the 2011/2012 Staying@Work survey conducted by Towers Watson.
