Health Plans Anticipate 11% Cost Increases for Employer-Sponsored Plans in 2011

OPEN MINDS Weekly News Wire Strategic Health Care News Health insurers and health plan administrators are preparing for an average 11% cost increase for employer-sponsored plans for 2011. The cost trend for high deductible health plans (HDHPs) increased the most, from 10.3% in 2010 to 11.3% in 2011. Cost trends for other plan designs are expected to increase by less than one full percentage point. In general, health plans are expecting higher claims cost due to the provisions of the March 2010 Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act that have already been implemented.
