Medicaid Enrollments Exceed Health Insurance Enrollments During First Weeks Of Health Insurance Marketplace Operations

During the first month of the health insurance marketplace enrollment period, Medicaid enrollments exceeded health insurance enrollments, according to data released by the federal Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) on November 13, 2013. Open enrollment started on October 1, 2013, and as of November 2, 106,185 Americans have enrolled in Qualified Health Plans (QHP) from the state and federal Marketplaces; and another 396,261 Americans have been determined or assessed eligible for enrollment in Medicaid or a state Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) plan.
