Maryland Medicaid Launches Two New Telehealth Services

Maryland's Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DHMH) is expanding Medicaid reimbursement for telehealth services, beyond the current telemental health program ,to two new programs, the Rural Access to Telemedicine Program and the Cardiovascular Disease and Stroke Telemedicine Program, both newly launched on October 22, 2013. Both programs provide access to specialists. DHMH implemented the Medicaid Telemental Health Program in 2010. Medicaid will reimburse originating site providers in certain rural service locations for medically necessary eligible evaluation and management services provided in a hospital emergency department setting, and for appropriate hospital facility fees. Distant site providers will be reimbursed . . .
