New Performance-Based Payment System For Medicare Advantage To Be Fully Implemented By 2017

The federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) is in the early stages of implementing a new performance-based payment system for Medicare Advantage plans as part of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010 (PPACA). The new system will be fully implemented by 2017. The system will lower per capita payments to Medicare Advantage plans that exceed traditional Medicare payments and reward high-performing plans by paying bonuses and allowing additional marketing efforts.
