Half Of Small Business Workers Eligible For Employer-Sponsored Health Benefits, 31% Uninsured

In 2010, 49% of workers employed by a small business (those with less than 50 employees) were eligible for health insurance coverage through their employer; this is a decline since 2003 when 58% of workers employed by a small business were eligible for employer-sponsored coverage. Among all small business employees, a total of 33% received health insurance coverage through their own employer, while 8% received Medicaid or Medicare, and 31% remained uninsured. Comparatively, workers in mid-sized (between 50 and 99 employees) and large (over 100 employees) businesses were more likely to be eligible for coverage from their employers . . .
