33 States Implement Medicaid Pharmacy Cost Containment Measures In FY 2012
In fiscal year 2012, a total of 33 states implemented some form of cost containment measure designed to reduce Medicaid pharmacy benefit spending. In fiscal year 2013, 29 states plan to implement some type of cost containment initiative. These cost containment initiatives include limiting the number of prescriptions, changing supplemental rebate programs, establishing/changing a preferred drug list, and changing policies related to specialty drugs.
