AMA Resolution Supports Medicare As A Defined Contribution Program
At its October 2012 meeting, the American Medical Association's (AMA) House of Delegates adopted a committee recommendation, to support a plan for Medicare reform that embraces the concept of Medicare as a defined contribution program in which beneficiaries purchase coverage. The recommendation was proposed by the Council on Medical Service in a report on strengthening Medicare for current and future generations. In adopting the council’s recommendation, the AMA House of Delegates signaled willingness to participate in federal efforts to sustain the Medicare program’s fiscal viability.
