Advancing patient engagement in their health care has been proposed as a key goal for the third stage of the Medicare and Medicaid incentive programs for Meaningful Use of electronic health record systems (EHRs). The federal Office of the National Coordinator (ONC) Health Information Technology Policy Committee is accepting public comment through due January 14, 2013 on its proposals for Stage 3 of the incentive program, which were released on November 20, 2012.
