December 25, 2006 Northeast Texas MHMR Merges With Sabine Valley Center MHMR   On December 1, 2006, the Northeast Texas Mental Health Mental Retardation (MHMR) Center merged its operations with the Sabine Valley MHMR. The merger was in response to continued state-level budget pressure that has reduced the Northeast Texas MHMR funding from $7 million in 1997 to $5.5 million in 2006. Subsequently, former Northeast Texas MHMR executive director Mark Blockus has resigned.   Sabine Valley MHMR serves six counties and will add Northeast Texas MHMR counties of Bowie and Red River to its service area.
