2011 Medicaid EHR Meaningful Use Payments Top $2.7 Billion With One-Third Of Eligible Entities & Professionals Participating
In 2011, the Medicaid electronic health record (EHR) incentive program awarded $2.7 billion to hospitals and professionals, about one-third of those eligible to participate, that demonstrated meaningful use of health information technology to provide care to Medicaid patients. Incentive payments went to 1,964 hospitals that received a total of $1.7 billion and 45,962 professionals who received $1 billion. Although states are not required to offer the Medicaid EHR program, during 2011, 42 states launched Medicaid EHR programs and disbursed incentive payments.
