15% Of Mental Health Apps Updated To Refer Users To 988 & 24% Offered An Alternative Hotline
More than one year after the rollout of the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline in 2022, only 15% of mental health apps had incorporated information on this new national standard for crisis support as of 2024, according to a recent assessment. The researchers analyzed crisis resources provided by 302 commercially available mental health-related digital apps and concluded that while some apps provide excellent crisis support, many fail to meet basic needs.
Recommendations include:
