About 15% of women and 9% of men reported in 2024 that a physician, other health care professional, or other provider organization office staff treated them unfairly or with disrespect due to their weight, according to a recent study. Health care consumers also reported unfair treatment or disrespect due to other personal characteristics, such as age (reported by 9% of women and 8% of men), gender (reported by 9% of women and 6% of men), race (reported by 7% of women and 7% of men), or a disability (reported 6% of women and 7% of men).
