15 States Fail To Adequately Support Maternal Mental Health; Another 27 Fall Below Average

As of May 2023, a total of 15 U.S. states fail to adequately support maternal mental health (MMH), and another 27 fall below average. On an A through F grading scale, Alabama, Arkansas, Connecticut, Georgia, Idaho, Iowa, Mississippi, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, South Carolina, South Dakota, Texas, and Wyoming scored failing grades for MMH.

The only state with the highest score awarded (B-) was California. Five states scored C ratings: Arizona, Colorado, Illinois, Massachusetts, and Pennsylvania. While three states (New Jersey, Rhode Island, and Washington) scored C- ratings.
