16% Of Virginia Medicaid & CHIP Members Have Received Behavioral Health Services During Fiscal Year 2022

About 16.1% of people enrolled in Virginia Medicaid and Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) representing 305,204 members, received residential or outpatient behavioral health services in state fiscal year 2022. Most received behavioral health services for depressive disorders (29%), anxiety disorders (27%) and trauma and stressor-related disorders (20%).

The utilization data was reported by a new Virginia Medicaid behavioral health dashboard. According to the dashboard, the state paid $1.2 billion for the behavioral health services used during state fiscal year 2022 (as of August 1, 2022). The average cost paid was about $4,056 per person . . .
