17% Of Primary Care Consumers Use Cannabis; 76% Report Use To Manage Health Symptoms
About 17% of primary care consumers in a large health system in Los Angeles reported using cannabis in the past three months. About 76% of them said they used cannabis to manage symptoms such as mental health symptoms or stress (56%), sleep (56%), and pain (37%). Very few identified themselves as medical cannabis users. Additionally, of those who reported using cannabis for recreational reasons, many said they had used cannabis at some point to manage a symptom. About one third of those who reported cannabis use had results indicative of moderate to high risk for cannabis use disorder.
